Ebony Hickey
When I draw, I am guided by instinct, by the thickness of the lines, the colours and textures. Drawing is an important part of my practice; I respect the simple form of paper and markers. It is a joy to capture my wide brown nose and full plump brown lips, they are intwined with my black/brown greatness. Hair electric with African/Haitian genes forever embedded with cultural and historical importance and beauty. I see the black/brown body as representing strength and will, a reflection of power and survival.
